Day 15 – Rainbow Morning

The rain stops around 10 am and we even get a rainbow.

It’s however really windy and still a little bit of rain sometimes. We decide to move on nevertheless. The hot weather is definitely gone.

We are towing the canoes sometimes as navigation in some curves is not easy at all and even one straight parts facing the wind advancing is really hard (we will learn afterwards that further down out of the mountains the wind was even stronger.)

The water movement below is not from the current – there is barely own – it’s only the wind. If your canoe is not directly facing the wind – you are taking the risk of taking water or even capsizing.

Water is running high and even the small creeks have no clear water – the river turned really brown.

There is a bit less wind in the afternoon but weather is getting worse again and we have to take out the ponchos.

We are passing in a region now that has seen a wildfire in the last years. It’s kind of spooky all the burnt trees and the dark sky. The fireweed however is already growing and adding a red touch.

What’s more there are eagles everywhere – we do not know if it’s because of the open terrain due to the lack of foliage or if there’s another reason.

The water level still might be going up. We therefore try to find a camp that’s high enough – not that easy as at least compared to the start of our journey the water level is already a lot higher.

It’s pasta for dinner!
