Really early the weather seems to get better.
A little bit later the clouds are back however.
My parents are trying to dry (and not burn) the clothes they washed yesterday but have not had time to dry due to the rain.
But finally the sun wins – and we pack up and leave camp while the sun is shining brightly.
A nice day of paddling on the river awaits us!
Not long after having left camp we decide to explore a small arm of the river – the water there is crystal clear.
When the arm further separates into two branches we stop. We decide to filter water and fill our stocks. Of course dad tries to fish (especially as we have seen some arctic pikes when going “upriver”).
The channel on the right below is blocked by a beaver dam – no going further without portage there. The blues and greens are breathtaking.
The channel straight ahead seems to get smaller and smaller.
We decide to turn back and try our luck fishing further down.
No luck here though and we get back on the main channel, where the water is still a lot higher than at the beginning of our trip.
In this part the river should be meandering a lot according to the map. It seems however that more than once the river has chosen to go straight and leave his bed. We have lunch high up on a bank in the sun.
At one point according to the map the river should turn right but has once again decided to go straight. That’s where we find one of our most beautiful camps. A nice and high and big gravel bank.
Lots of wood
and just on the opposite side of the river some sort of “river delta” with lots of birds!
My dad and I cross the river to have a look at a small channel – fishing intentions of course – no luck though as it is not nearly as deep as it looked. It’s pasta with cheese then for dinner.
Nothing to say about our tarp there, perfect lockout place for watching swans and cranes.
and a great evening light
with a beautiful sunset in addition. while playing a game of cards.
Sky is really blue even after the sun is down.
